Nokia 8.1 also becomes the first Snapdragon 710-powered smartphone to get updated to Android 10.
HMD Global has announced the rollout of Android 10 for the Nokia 8.1. This is the first Nokia phone to get updated to Android 10, keeping true to HMD’s promise. The company had announced its Android 10 rollout plan a few weeks ago where it was revealed that the Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 9 PureView will get upgraded to Android 10 in Q4 2019. Nokia 8.1 (Review) also becomes the first smartphone in its segment to get the Android 10 update.
Nokia 8.1 users will receive Android 10 via an OTA update. The rollout is likely taking place in a phased manner and should reach all Nokia 8.1 units over the next few days. Android 10 is Google’s newest operating system that has so far been released for Pixel phones, the Essential Phone and some OnePlus phones.
Android 10 brings a new gesture navigation that is now more fluid and intuitive. It also bring a Smart Reply feature that will offer smart responses in messages, Focus mode, Dark theme, better privacy controls and more control over your personal data.
Nokia 8.1 was launched late last year running on stock Android 9 Pie. The phone is currently available in India with a starting price of Rs 15,999, making it the most affordable phone to run on Android 10 right now.
HMD Global has been terrific when it comes to delivering software updates. Not only did it update its entire portfolio of Nokia smartphones to Android 9 Pie, but it did so in the shortest amount of time. After the Nokia 8.1, the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 9 PureView are expected to get the Android 10 update before the year ends.
“With the Nokia 8.1 being the first Android smartphone running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 to receive Android 10, we’re also setting our precedent of firsts, and aim to keep being first to roll out Android 10 across other key chipsets,” said Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global.
